Sustainability has lost some meaning due to its over-use. However, sustainability simply goes back to a lesson I was taught as a kid; leave things better than you found them. This will allow us to preserve and protect our natural, human, and historical resources.
As the graph above illustrates, it is in the “sweet-spot” of sustainability, community, and business intersect where we will find the solutions to our city’s problems. I am not one for political-speak, but rather concrete ideas. Below are a few of my ideas I will work towards implementing.
- Address public safety issues by increasing foot and bicycle police patrols
- Bring local foods into our schools and strengthen our local food economy
- Expand recycling to include all businesses in the district, make the large orange totes available to residents, and add compostable materials to the current yard-waste pickup.
- Create a small business incubator
- Create an insurance coop that would provide affordable insurance to our local business’ employees
- Connect local businesses to students through a student mentoring program
- Propose a resolution nullifying Citizens United
- Implementing Louisville’s Climate Action Plan Recommendations
- Equal rights for all our citizens including our LGBT community
